Mel Robbins “ How you set your day up is how it ends up”
I’m not sure what your mornings look like, but until last year, mine were a whirlwind. I’d snooze the alarm until I absolutely couldn’t anymore, then rush out of bed in a frenzy. Packing lunch, doing my hair, attempting some semblance of a makeup look—all done in a hurry. By the time I dashed out the door, I was already filled with that rushed energy, which I then carried with me onto the road. Sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic, I’d become irritable, frustrated with the world around me. By the time I reached work, I felt exhausted, as if I’d been up for hours. Maybe some of you can relate, but let me tell you, this formula doesn’t work. It’s like setting yourself up for failure or a chaotic day.
After listening to a few podcasts and reading some chapters of self-help books, I decided to change things up and see if it made a difference. I adapted what I learned to suit my own routine and needs. Now, I wake up at least 30 minutes earlier than before. No more hitting the snooze
button; when the alarm goes off, I’m up. Here are a few changes I’ve made to my routine:
By the time I step out of my house, I do so with a newfound sense of calm and purpose. I’ve learned to prioritize my well-being and give myself the time and space I need to start the day on the right foot. As I settle into my car, I eagerly anticipate the journey ahead, knowing that I have the power to shape my day with positivity and intention. During my commute, I indulge in a playlist or podcast, immersing myself in the soothing sounds and insightful conversations that accompany me on my journey. Rather than succumbing to the stress of traffic, I choose to remain centred and focused, finding humour in the absurdities of rush-hour chaos. As I arrive at work, I do so with a sense of calm confidence, ready to tackle whatever challenges the day may bring.
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. You will need to sit with this and work out what will work for you. Also, don’t overwhelm yourself and make too many changes at once. Start small, take baby steps, and try your best to be consistent.
